Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for colour product application.
   • Discuss colour service and confirm supervising hairdresser or barber instructions.
   • Select and prepare equipment according to colour application methods advised by supervisor.
   • Measure and prepare colour products according to supervisor instructions and ensure minimal wastage.
   • Apply wraps, towels and skin barrier cream to ensure client protection and safety.
2. Apply colour products.
   • Maintain client and operator comfort and safety throughout colour service according to organisational procedures.
   • Apply colour products using methods and following stages as directed by supervisor and request checks at appropriate times.
   • Take personal precautions to prevent own skin stain and allergic reactions to colour chemicals.
   • Ensure colour application is even and without stain on client scalp or hairline.
   • Ensure re-growth application does not overlap with previously coloured hair.
   • Complete colour application within organisational timeframes.
   • Dispose of hazardous and other waste safely according to organisational procedures.
